NEW PATTERN: THE LEANNAN BAG

After a long hiatus, dealing with life and mental health stuff and weighing whether to continue working or patterns or not, I am finally back with a new one.

The LEANNAN BAG is a medium size bag with various customization options.

The pattern is available in: English, French and German.

It offers step by step instructions with over 250 photos, a full video tutorial by mgrahamsews, full pattern pieces (no fold pieces), imperial and metric measurements, pattern pieces in A4 or LETTER format, an A0 file and optional SVG files.

The main pattern features a ready-made handle (of various sizes and shapes) with an adjustable strap and a recessed zipper closure. The interior features a zipper pocket and a double slip pocket.

The pattern also has an ADD-ONs section to customize various aspects of your bag, giving you many different looks and features. Different handles/shoulder straps with exterior pocket options, alternative side connectors, different main closure options as well as a cup/glasses case holder.
You can make it your own by choosing any of the offered variations/modifications.

For ready-made handles (metal, acrylic, wood etc) the pattern offers instructions on how to adjust to the size and shape of the handle you have available (or plan to get). But if you don’t want to use that type of the handle – the add-ons section offers instructions on regular sewn handles (or shoulder straps) attached using metal connectors. Some testers didn’t want those so they made their own connectors.

The main pattern has a recessed zipper closure, but if you want to modify that aspect, the ADD-ONS section offers instructions on a recessed zipper with zipper panels (making the top of the bag wider (deeper), or you can use magnetic snaps for easier access to the interior of your bag (also covered in the ADD-ONS section).

If you don’t like the side connectors in the main instructions, the ADD-ONS section offers an alternative. Or you can even skip those for a simple handbag or shoulder bag (with the shoulder straps ADD-ON).

The main pattern has a curved top edge, with two variations – one for wide handles (rectangular, trapezoidal etc) and the other for round handles. But the ADD-ONS section also offers instructions on how to make it with a straight top edge, if you want to use special handles that attach at the top, or you just prefer that look. The straight t

If you want to add a bottle/cup holder (or glasses case holder) to the interior of the bag, the ADD-ONS section offers instructions for that too, with two options available, a sewn-in holder or a removable one.

This pattern features and oval base, and I know many may struggle with this or avoid it, as it definitely isn’t easy to sew an oval base onto a bag with a firm stabilizer attached to it. So with this pattern I wanted to show a different option of stabilizing the base, making the sewing process easier. I hope this technique will prove useful to you, and something you can use with other bags you make.

I hope you will like the pattern and make it your own. I’d love to see your version of the Leannan Bag in my FB group: DEJA designs – Bag Pattern Group

Happy sewing!
